Melbourne arrived on the Grand Prix calendar in 1996, after several years at the popular Adelaide circuit.

Like Adelaide, Melbourne is a street circuit, and is a favourite among drivers and teams alike. As the Aussies say, it's a great place for a race, and the season is always guaranteed to start off with excitement here.

However, Melbourne has relinquished its traditional season-opening slot on the calendar for 2006, as the city is hosting the Commonwealth games, and wished to avoid a clash.

Melbourne normally provides an interesting race, and incidents aplenty, and predicting a result here is impossible.

Home to Mark Webber, expect to see thousands of Aussie flags in the grandstands.
