rollover ff1 template   After Jos Verstappen's incident in the pits at the 1994 Hockenheim Grand Prix, there was much scrutiny regarding F1 refuelling in pit stops.

However just one year later, Eddie Irvine suffered a fire in the pit lane at the Belgian Grand Prix. This time however it was the result of a faulty fuel valve on the car itself, allowing fuel to leak out of the fuel tank, and onto the hot bodywork and igniting.

Quick work by the Jordan mechanics ensured that Irvine's car was put out within a couple of seconds.

In an interview after the Belgian Grand Prix, Irvine said: "I saw the flames and I thought 'S**t! This thing's on fire!'"

The events of Spa 1995 are shown below:

The pitstop has ended, and the mechanics have moved away from the car, and the lollypop raised. The car begins to exit the pits, but fuel has escaped from the valve and has ignited.

The car continues to pull away, but later stops, and the Jordan mechanics douse the flames.
